Moses asked the Lord, “Suppose everyone refuses to listen to my message, and no one believes that you really appeared to me?”
The Lord answered, “What’s that in your hand?”
“A walking stick,” Moses replied.
“Throw it down!” the Lord commanded. So Moses threw the stick on the ground. It immediately turned into a snake, and Moses jumped back.
“Pick it up by the tail!” the Lord told him. And when Moses did this, the snake turned back into a walking stick.
“Do this,” the Lord said, “and the Israelites will believe that you have seen me, the God who was worshiped by their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
God can speak to you right where you are at. Just like God spoke to Moses by appearing to him as a burning bush in Exodus 3. God gave Moses the power to do what He has called him to do which was to speak to Pharoah and ask to let the Egyptians free. Moses was afraid that the people would refuse to listen to his message, yet in the above passage, God shows Moses that the power to speak has been given to him. When we use what we have, God will multiply it (Matthew 14:17, 18 regarding the fish and the loaves). If we give Him what we have, He will multiply it.
God has given us the power of prayer and we need to utilize that gift. God literally had Moses look at what was in his hands. Moses probably thought what was in his hands was purely a walking stick– just wood, but when God shifted his eyes he was shown the power that was given to him. It is up to us to use the tools and gifts that God has to given us, whether it’s a talent, a personality trait, people skills; whatever it may be, you can use it for the kingdom.
There are two things needed to work with that we have. First, have faith! Through it all have faith that God will provide. Second, we need to be obedient to God’s word. Just like Moses he had to have faith in God, even though he was scared and wasn’t sure the people were going to believe him. Moses had faith and obeyed God, and was used by God.
(Declare): Lord, I’m gonna bring You what I have and watch You go to work. God, I’m gonna take what You’ve given me, and I’m going to use it!
